Surreal Practice Tutorials

The things we did in the Desert tutorial to make it look realistic is we distorted the ground so it wouldn't look like a wall. We wanted to make it look like we were gonna step on it rather than it just look like a wall that we were standing in front of. Then we made a gradient on the sky so it'll look like a real sky, then we made another gradient on the ground so it can seem like the ground blends/goes with the sky. We also added clouds, and fixed the light post so it was rising out of the ground. This will help me because i can make things that seem unreal realistic, i can make a flower come out of the cement but still make it look real. Or make a frog or tree branch come out of a persons mouth and make it seem like its real. It helps me bring fake thing to seem like realistic things.

Art Show "You Already Know So Much"

In this picture you see a simple picture white background and white floor, you see a person wearing heels with a 30 Seconds to Mars CD at their feet. You also see five words reading out "YOU ALREADY KNOW SO MUCH". The colors are black red and white these colors bring the picture out in black and white, they just don't just stick together to make a boring black and white picture. Dont judge a book by its cover.
The message my st
atement and picture represent is the labels people have for each other, just because some looks a certain way and acts a certain way that doesn’t mean that’s all they are. This issue doesn’t effect me in a big way but it still effects me, people are always judging me the first time they see me they automatically assume I’m an emo, Goth, cutter etc. This issue means a lot to me I want to show people there’s more than the front cover if they would just take the time to get to know me and peal back the front layers. I’m not just this Goth chic people see me to be there’s more to people than their looks and interests. I wanted to create something almost everyone can relate to, its not just about me this can be about anyone. Wheather its the most popular person or the least popular person, it releates to everyone because everyone judges everyone.

Graduation Program

There's nothing really strong in my program, I could of done something better and put something in the program that means something to seniors. I think i could of put more thought in what I want to do with my program, and I could of made it look more artistic. It was harder, because I couldn't do what I wanted to do I had to do what the school wanted. The idea, because if you were trying to sell something you would want people to buy it, but if it doesn't look cool to people or if people don't like it then they wont buy it. It plays a role in commercials and advertisement.

Senior Portfolio Cover

The strength I have is my creativity, and how i combined silver and purple together instead of just putting purple on the whole cover. I could of thought about what to do more than just go with my first idea, i think the cover would of been better if i would of kept thinking about it. The thing I struggled with the most would be trying to put purple but not to much purple, I think I did better on my portfolio show.

Personal Quilt

My Quilt
Past
Outside
Future
Inside me

Inside Me: I based this square on how I want people to see me and to prove them wrong, I wanted to show people there’s more to me than what they see. My ideas changed from time to time, it was a little hard trying to decide what to do to this square but the final results are great. There’s still some things I’m not content with, there’s some things I want to add to the square I don’t really feel like it’s complete. In this square I put stairs to express how I let people walk all over me, and how I just let it go on and on. The Chinese symbol represents the courage I have inside me that people don’t know about. My emphasis for this square is the stairs.
Outside Me: In this square I wanted to express how people see me, what they think about me and how I feel about it. I put a puzzle in the background with a missing piece because people always say I’m missing something, I put my heart on a hand because some people take advantage of my kindness and the hand represents that. I put rockers in this picture to show how people see me. My emphasis is me, because I want people to see me not who I am but the real me.
Past: I wanted to express how strong I’ve gotten. how far I’ve gotten, and what I’ve learned from the past and how I overcame my challenges. The butterflies represent my strength, the fence represents my journey, and the words in the back represent the love that I’ve lost and the people I lost. My emphasis is the butterflies; this is my emphasis because I wanted to show people how far I’ve come to be as strong as I am.
Future: What I want to express in this square is the confusion I have for my future and all the uncertainty I have about my future. The strongest symbol in this square is the tree, I’m standing next to it and I wanted to show the confusion I have for my future. The tree expresses this because I’m standing next to the tree all confused and it shows how I’m stuck at a crossroad.

Artist Statement

In my portfolio you’ll find pictures of art, you’ll se my most creative side and creative masterpieces. I feel that my portfolio is right, its not just a bunch of words, the words are creative and artistic. There are photos in here that are my own creations as well; art doesn’t necessarily have to be paint and paper.
I learned how to bring our emphasis more for people to see and focus on what you want them to. The thing I did the most successful at is taking photos all of my photos in the beginning of the year weren’t so great, but now that I got the hang of it, it some how seems like.
I got it down. I struggled with a few things; the biggest one is Photoshop, “in general“it has so many steps that look the same and its kind of hard following them. I could improve in the future by asking the instructor to help me when I get lost, or with my photos I could ask for some advice.
I’ve seen improvement in my photography it became more creative and live like with everything I’m learning and practicing. I’ve learned good tricks when taking picture, the one I use the most is rule of thirds and simplicity they help in so many ways when I’m taking pictures. I’ve learned how to make blog headers on Photoshop, and how to edit and twig my pictures.
Overall I feel my portfolio is something you’ll enjoy it has all kinds of things such as things I took or things I’ve made on Photoshop and the description of them. I’m very successful in photo compared to the first day. Another struggle I have is leading lines, and extreme angles.

Personal Words

The lyrics i choose for my project are Might Have Been and I Get It by Kate Voegele.

"I Get It"

I couldn’t make this up I have been outdone by my own kind I always traded up now I’m a victim for the first time Well I’m unaffected and indifferent but I can’t pretend that I’m not over the edge you turned the tables on me didn’t you this is how hurt feels and its everything they saidI was untouchable until karma crashed my party found out I’m crushable and now I’m the only one that’s sorryI don’t get rejected I’ve somehow how regressedits unprecedented no second best

"Might Have Been"

Well I’m not the type who gets voted most likely to be victimized by those old butterflies but you’re the exception your love is infectious and the fever is climbing highI hope it’s aright if you’re still mine when were older cause I wont spend another day wondering what might have been

I choose these lyrics because their inspirational in a way, when I have a bad day I listen to one of these songs and it make my day a little better. I combined these two songs together because the song “I Get It” tells people they shouldn’t take things for granted, and the song “Might Have Been” tell people take any opportunity that comes their way or they’ll just sit there wondering what might have been. These lyrics mean somewhat a lot to me because I do let things pass me by and I’m stuck there wondering what might have been. These two songs send out a positive message to people whether the person listening to it is a boy or girl, anybody can listen to these songs and feel probably the same way I do or different.

Scary Effects

My Favorite was the Alien, because its different and fun, its a little more scarier than the Vampire i would be more scared of the Alien than the Vampire. I learned how to make curvy lines, you just take the pen tool start a line and curve it then repeat. Some of the difficulties i ran into were when we had to dodge and burn our pictures, it was kind of hard, to me that's a hard tool. I think i did well on the whole Alien picture, its looks real where as my Vampire picture doesn't look very real. The job i want has to do with photography I'm not sure about photoshop, the job i want is taking pictures of Zoo Animals for brochures and magazines.

Critique: Robert & Shana Parkeharrison

In the water kneels a man with a hammer in one hand and a bag of wood on his back, with rings going through the water, he’s on a bridge that looks as though he built it. It’s in black and white, but there’s a soft light coming from the horizon of the ocean.

Him being in the middle of the ocean building a bridge shows that he wants to be successful; he’s determined to accomplish what he started. The photo shows the determination we all should have, we shouldn’t give up even if we might not get anywhere.

Photographic Effects

My favorite was the Adjustment Layers, because it brings the emphasis out more. You focus on the emphasis more than whats behind it, it makes the picture better. Cross process is the one i would like to explore or work with more, because its like the Adjustment Layers but it focus' on everything in the picture. It just focus on the emphasis it shows you what the picture is about, that its not just the emphasis in the picture. I really didn't experiment with photshop alot i just used what Ms. Cook taught us to be honest.

Portraits

I think i was most successful with the surprise Portrait, because i got really creative with this one and also because its my favorite. I used light to create an artistic portrait, i created a serious type of mood, a more determined mood. We choose to use my clients football jersey because; that's what my client does and there was more artistic ways to express what he does, and express the prop/costume. My Artistic Portrait is unique because its very creative and it describes the prop/costume we decided on, it uses almost all the compositional tricks like light, extreme angles, leading lines, and simplicity. I think this project was the most difficult because you had to be creative with all the pictures, and sometimes be creative is hard.

Contact Sheet

I liked Extreme Angles, because its intresting to see how birds viem us, and how ants/worms view us how big or small we are to them. Fill In Flash, because it shows your emphasis when you need it to it's really handy. Light, because I found it hard to take the right picture, there wasn't really good shadows, and it was hard to capture the mood of the photo. The Macro of the grass, becasuse i wasn't trying to get the waterdrop in the picture but it shows and also because I like the way it came out the way the grass looks.

Compositional Trick #8 Fill In Flash

If you take a picture and its too dark to see what the picture is Fill In Flash helps, because when you retake it your picture shows. I will use Fill In Flash in the future when i'm in my house and its too dark to see my picture, i can use Fill In Flash to show my emphasis. I'll use it when i'm at a football game and I can't see my emphasis.

Compositional Trick #7 Drawaing With Light

We use light to make a photo more dramatic, it makes the picture seem more intense. Were really just drawing with light, it sometimes gives out an emotion that the emphasis is feeling. When you look at a light picture it gives away a type of vibe, it gives out a type of beautiful vibe.

Compositional Trick #6 Framing

We use framing to pop out the emphasis, it's used to lead you to the emphasis. It frames them so you know were to look. Anything can act as a frame, trees, poles etc.

Compositional Trick #5 Extreme Angles

We Take extreme angles so people can see the world at different angles, from a birds take and an ants take. We use it because when were taking pictures we view the way we view the world, sometimes it can get a little bit boring if we are looking at a picture from the same angles all the time.

Compositional Trick #4 Simplicity

We use simplicity to keep you concentrated on the emphasis. If there was a lot of stuff in this photo like a person nobody would pay attention to the tree which is the emphasis. And when you take a simplicity shot it eliminates the distractions so all your focus could be on the tree.

Compositional Trick #3 Macro

Macro Is Represented By The Flower Icon, It Helps You Get A Good Focus Of Your Emphasis. It Blurs Out The Backgroung But It Keeps The Emphasis Clear, It Blurs Out The Background So The Background Doesn't Take From The Emphasis. You Can Take A Good Clean Up Close Picture Of Your Emphasis, Like An Ant, or Speek Of Dirt On The Floor.

Compositional Trick #2 Leading Lines

Leading Lines Is A Picture Where The Lines Of The Picture Take You In And Through The Picture. The Lines Take You To The Emphasis So You Focus All Your Attention On The Emphasis.

Compositional Trick #1 Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is a compositional trick that we use to have great pictures, it helps the emphasis. Its like a tit-tac board the emphasis has to be on the middle side, the upper middle or the lower middle of the screen on the camera. I use it to show people the emphasis better, to point them to the emphasis.
